As soon as Lise and I found Icebreakers Lit in the wild, we knew we wanted in. We didn’t know how exactly, but we were so in. So in. We loved the idea of Spin the Bottle too, for the record, but we were approaching this as a pre-packaged deal.

So here’s why writing with your bestie is the best:

  • Because you talk to this person literally all day long so you don’t need to carve out extra time

  • You’re alpha-reading their work so you know they like onomatopoeia

  • They’re alpha-reading yours so they know you use less punctuation than they do

  • They’ve read your draftiest draft and made it better

  • They’ve heard your most persnickety takes, judgement-free

  • They’ve seen you at your worst and loved you anyway

In 2025, Icebreakers Lit introduced the theme of “Close Encounters,” and finally we saw our window. Here it is. A DREAM, 12 AM, L.A., BUT IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER.
